Over the last few weeks, I’ve gotten a couple of large (read – over 60 pounds total) boxes of apples through the vegetable co-op I participate in. We’ve had applesauce, apple pie, pumpkin apple butter . . . and if I go any further, I’ll start sounding like my beloved Forrest Gump. Well, just one more:) Tonight, I made baked apple chips, and I must say they are absolutely divine! I’ve had them with no sweetener, and while I enjoy the simple goodness of the straight apple taste, I do prefer a bit of a sugar soak to enhance it a bit. I also sprinkled on a a light layer of pumpkin pie seasoning before baking. Enjoy!

We’re obviously past Autumn, so I won’t be doing the darker colors (for now . . .). I’m thinking about getting some pastel felt and trying to make an Easter wreath in the same style. If I start now, I might actually be done by Easter! (Check out the rest of The Spotted Fox’s DIY tutorials while you’re there; she has some wonderful ideas!)

It’s been quite a long while since I’ve really run . . . and even longer since I’ve kept an established routine of running at least 3-4 times a week. Usually, I’m not one to make new year’s resolutions as I feel anytime is a good time to make a change. But at the end of last year, I really felt the need to set some hard and fast deadlines for changes, for replacing my bad habits with healthy, beneficial choices. On this list is waking up my lazy, achy bones and muscles and getting them strong again. I enjoy the freedom and space in running, the strength, and the peace of mind. Tomorrow, I begin warm up walk #1.

I love owls, and these little guys and gals would make adorable Valentine’s Day gifts. I actually have a bit of kitschy Valentine’s Day fabric with little pink and brown owls that I’m going to use for my daughter’s owl. Now, I just need to find some fabric with a slightly manly Valentine pattern for my son. (Is that an oxymoron?)

A friend of mine posted her Bountiful Baskets meal plan for the day, and it included asparagus and blue cheese quiche. Mmmmmmm. Naturally, I went searching the world wide internets to find a recipe. I think I’ll be trying this one; the addition of heavy cream sounds like a good complement to asparagus:

(I took screen shots of this as it came from The Daily Mail, and I didn’t want to offend anyone’s eyes with all the hot mess stewing on that site.)
And we wouldn’t be complete without a little Gary Larson to round out our asparagus talk:

I love this idea! So often, I have a shirt that doesn’t fit anymore, just isn’t my style, etc., but the fabric it’s made of is beautiful. I always think what a shame it is that I can’t make it into another outfit. (For those with more skill than me, I’m sure this doesn’t present much of a dilemma.) This tutorial shows how to make an old cami tank top into a super cute dress or flowy shirt for a girl, and the skill level required doesn’t seem to be too high. (And if it ends in disaster, at least it was an OLD shirt and not new, expensive fabric, right?!)
